The value & necessity of a website is becoming less and less.
You can display pictures on Pinterest, Video on Vimeo, & use About.me as a homepage to tie it all together. You can sell pay per view video on YouTube or Vimeo.
You can build up an audience on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, market products & webinars on Lead Pages, consult with people via Skype.
Even the line between websites & blogs have become blurred. Websites definitely have their place for more advanced requirements but the distinction isn't so strong anymore.
The main thing Gary Veynerchuck teaches is to market in the year we live in, not market in the way things were done 10 years ago, 5 years ago, or even 2 years ago.
When I hear people say they need a website my first thought is you need to decide who your client is, see yourself from their eyes, and try to sense what they need to see in order to do business with you.
